NAC Program Area:Appraisals Information and Guidelines - Introduction
|
|
IntroductionIt would be difficult in this day and age to be actively involved as a collector without being aware of the growing significance of having valuables appraised. Sooner or later most everyone has a need for an appraisal of something they own, maybe their entire collection or inventory. Yet, perhaps surprisingly, most collectors do not have the slightest idea of how to go about getting help...or making the "right" decision for their particular situation. Perhaps an appraisal is not necessary. Appraisals can be expensive, but do satisfy a variety of needs and legal requirements. But, maybe you just want to know what something is worth, like an interesting item picked up at a yard sale or flea market or found in Great Aunt Minnie's attic. The primary focus of the NAC Appraisals Program is to provide information for collectors in making wise decisions about their personal collection appraisal needs. There is no one "right" way appropriate for all collectors. Various options, recommendations and guidelines will be given to assist collectors in selecting the most appropriate route for their individual needs; and, some pointers on what not to do. A Program Advisory Group has helped develop this program area and continues to monitor, add to, and refine the information on an ongoing basis. This group is here to assist and give advice whenever necessary. Discussion Forums are available for collectors to gain more specific information from a variety of forum participants. A listing of Resources for this Program Area is provided, as well as a Reference Archive. The goal of the National Association of Collectors (NAC) is to identify and address those needs and concerns that are common to all collectors by providing a broad range of information and resources. |
